Dru’s New World

I am an IT Professional, there are very few of us around these days. It seams like in the past people were of the mentality of, “I know how to do this on this machine and no one else does. I can never get fired.” I am sick and tiered of these people. I especially hate it when it makes me look like I am not doing my job because Joe Nerd won’t give me something as simple as the password to a server I need to run a report on.

So on that note I used to be a paid Hacker, I would go to a company scan for any vulnerabilities and Check their physical security issues. I loved the job but my employer couldn’t get me more Money so of course I left. After completing an Audit for one company and I gave them a report with the findings and a brief explination on how to fix some of these things, I was hired by them. Excellent an OLD organization where people will move and with my experience and knowledge I can move right on up. Within weeks the server manager and Network Managers Supervisor got a little upset. I was being nice I sent them a couple of emails with a couple of findings and suggestions on how to fix them. Of course they took this as me trying to take over their Jobs by making them look bad. These were common sence things that anyone current in the IT world would know to fix. For example: Hacking a password is a lot easier if I know a user name, Change the local built in names that Microsoft puts in there. Guest even if it is disabled change it to Guestsgetout… Quick simple and makes it a lot harder for a hacker.

Anyway, after time goes by, The Server Manager gets a Promotion now he is in charge of all IT in the company. I continue sending him my concerns and recomendations. He continues to give me crap jobs… I actually had to paint Lines on the Parking lot. Because of our position we have a Federal Organization coming to Audit our Network Security… My boss is scared to death, if we fail, Loss of Government Contracts, OUCH!!!

I got a phone call from the Government Organization, “DruU I need you to answer some questions.” After a few minutes of question and answer time go by I get the last one, “Why do you answer us truthfully?”

I answer, “You are trying to get me to pass the Audit, you look just as bad if we fail.”

“Everyone here has a saying, when it is Bullshit time, Ask Supervision. You want the truth ask DruU.”

Here I am worried for the past month because everyone is blaming everything that has been wrong in this place for 20 years, I have only been here for 6 months… Final part in the phone conversation,

“DruU, don’t worry we know they are doing shady crap there. But our report will reflect your ideas and information. We have your back.”
