I am in charge of Information Security and Policy at work. This is a fun job but there are some things that even I don’t like. Last week I pushed out a few policy’s that I felt were important and had approval to do so from the Executives. Today I am trying to figure out if I am a good Security guy or just a guy that is trying to ruin everyone’s fun.

First Change - I blocked a lot of websites, All Porn, All Gambling and all Games.

Second Change - Removed all Games, No more hearts or solitare.

Third Change - all webmail ports are now blocked on Firewall. I even block gmail now…

I overheard one of the System Administrators on the phone today, “That was DruU that changed it.” Then, “I will let him know.”

Come to find out this was security on the complex they told this SA that I better not go over 15mph in the complex because they want their Hearts back…

Damn dude you took away solitare? What the hell does that have to do with security? I guess you really did get your balls back!

    Well Doug,
Yes, I am a complete Asshole… When I am sitting there busting my ass and walk around to see people playing games it kind of pisses me off. Then throw in the blame I catch for certain projects falling behind in the schedule made me think… hmmm… I will screw these assholes over.
I ran a detect usage of certain programs on a Microsoft SMS Server and it tracked the amount of times a certain program was used. The program in this example was mshearts.
I took that report up to the Executive office and said, “Look what you are paying these people to do.”
I myself like playing hearts but 6 hours out of an 8 hour day on a couple of these machines is unbelievable.
Now I am not that much of an asshole, I refused to tell these executives the machines this was happening on. I didn’t want anyone to get into trouble. (I didn’t want them to know it was mainly my workstation)

Again, I’ll state how much I enjoy reading your power trip. Of course, if I worked in your office, I’d slash your tires, but since I don’t, it’s funny.

Our work blocked a ton of stuff. One of the funniest, though, was that they blocked the access to one particular college’s website…..the college that we’re actually a division of. Attaboys!
