I am Bored and today is my Bithday… It is actually boring because the only thing that I can find that is exciting in the past on this day is the Birth of DruU…
Other events:
On May 1, 1931, with the press of a button in Washington, D.C., President Herbert Hoover turned on the lights of the Empire State Building. This event officially opened the edifice, at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 34th Street in New York City, to the public. At 102 stories, it reigned as the world’s tallest skyscraper until 1974.

On May 1, 1764, Benjamin Henry Latrobe, considered one of the foremost proponents of the Greek Revival style in American architecture, was born in Yorkshire, England. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1795. Thomas Jefferson appointed Latrobe “Surveyor of the Public Buildings” of the United States in 1803. It was in this post that he inherited the task of completing the U.S. Capitol.

Of course Wiki has more so all I can say is:
“Happy Birthday Curtis Martin, Wes Welker and Tim McGraw”

Free Weekend

Since i have started my life in the Information technology world I believe every day I have at some point had my eyes glued to the computer.  It is hard for me to stay away from computers since I have a server in one room and 5 workstations though out the house.  I believe it is almost to the point I could probably hire a help desk person for my house.  I can see my daughter now, “Dad, I can’t get my laptop to connect to the internet.”

Of course my response would be, “Call the Help desk.”

Since I am now a new property owner of a 100+ year old house and it was the first weekend where it was about 80 degree’s, I was able to stay off the computer all weekend.

Instead of waking up and checking my email I woke up and had my cup of coffee on the porch looking at the lake and listening to the woodpecker down the road.

Instead of reading other peoples blogs and surfing the web all day I got to clean the vacant apartment with the windows open.   I was able to clean windows and rake leaves.  Instead of a hot kitchen to cook in the grill was heated up while the ribs were sizzling.

This was a great weekend, I was able to finally enjoy the world around my own little property instead of play on the internet looking at the full world.  I got to cook smore’s at night and didn’t even worry about writing up any technical security documents.

Every once in awhile it is great to let the larger world go do its own thing and sit on the porch with a glass of wine in my own little sanctuary.

Divorce not just bad for Marriage

I usually lay in bed with my laptop to unwind with a game of Poker late at night. (Fake Money) Tonight I was doing pretty good while I was visiting some of my favorite blogs and was at the final table of the Poker Tournament. Yes, I stumbled across Divorce Statistics (I was Bored) so I started looking though this Site. I get dealt pocket Kings so I place a conservative bet since I am second to last place at the table then go back to reading Divorce Stats, Did you know that Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate? You can tell I have never lived there. I am sure you can all guess what state has the Highest… Yep Nevada, yes I lived there, Divorce one was part of those statistics.

At this moment I got the beep saying the Flop in the Poker Tournament. Here I am 6 out of 8 started with 90 I think I am doing good with Pocket Kings, I look at the Flop… King… Jack… Eight… I am thinking… You know the pot is equal to the money in my hand and I have Three Kings, Screw it… I Push all in, its not real money anyway and at this point of the game everyone will fold and I just doubled my money. But two people call me… They are still in battle. So I switch back to the Divorce Page I found…

I read -

First Marriage 45% to 50% marriages end in divorce
Second Marriage 60% to 67% marriages end in divorce
Third Marriage 70% to 73% marriages end in divorce

I couldn’t believe it… So I guess that blows the whole third times the charm saying out of the water. Practice does not make better… I you fail try try again… I think I need to rethink the way my wonderful parents raised me. The only way to suceed is though a path of failure… My ASS…

Beep… time to go back to the game… Next card comes out, BAM another Jack, Full House Kings High, there is no way in hell I am going to lose this one. But the other two are in a battle. One pushes enough in the middle of the table to pull the other all in, without hesitation the other pushes all in… Would you believe he had pocket 8’s so he was showing a full house Jacks high, I have him… CRAP!!! I look over at the last guy, Pocket Jacks… You have got to be kidding me, Four Jacks. What the Hell are the chances of someone kicking two players off the final table that had full houses? I guess about the chances of someone in Las Vegas on their third marriage…

You only get flushed once…

I am a boring person and like most boring people I have a couple of sayings that I use, the main one is when I am asked, “How are you Dru?” my responce is usually, “Well I am breathing.”
another saying I like is, “God will piss on you though your life but he will only flush once.”
I have a lot of faith and know that everything will work out in the end, no matter what stresses i have had in my life I do not believe anything will ever get beyond what I can handle. This does leave me to take chances on a lot of things. I am a risk taker when it comes to a lot of things, Job, Money, and people. But there are also things I will not take risks with, my Kids being the main one.
I am not losing my faith but I am starting to feel that the big guy upstairs is trying to tell me something about calming down my life. After the past weeks, even months things have gotten very stressful. Usually, this is stress that has occured because of some risk I have taken where the Risk/reward chart was a little close to the risk side.
The problem I am having and trying to figure out is, when does it get to the point that the Risk is to the point where you cut your losses and run?

Open Source meets Open School

I love to learn new things, however going to classes just never works since I have so much other junk in my life.  When ever I find a free way to learn something I always try to take full advantage of it. OpenLearn I haven’t played with it to much but I have looked at the courses and they look pretty good.
